FAQ
Here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our products.
What is sedisto? + −
Sedisto offers a digital solution for self storage that thinks software and hardware together. The solution remains open to the best components and can thus meet the growing needs of self storage operators. Sedisto was founded in 2022 and has since implemented self storage solutions at well over 60 locations across Europe.
Is the installation of sedisto complicated? + −
Not at all. Since the installation is LAN-based and all controllers are powered via PoE (Power over Ethernet), setup requires minimal effort. No complicated electrical wiring — everything runs over LAN or wireless. Prior to installation, a detailed plan is drawn up and comprehensive guides are provided. We ourselves have already equipped a full site in a single day. Installation partners can also be arranged on request.
Are there any special network requirements? + −
No
Is the system compatible with booking systems? + −
The sedisto solution integrates with all common booking systems — as well as custom solutions. Thanks to the open architecture and extensive APIs, an integration can be set up quickly.
Who manufactures the required hardware such as controllers, PIN readers, etc.? + −
Our approach is to not develop our own hardware, and for good reason. For one, our customers don't end up buying proprietary hardware that can only be used with sedisto — instead they get freely available hardware from established manufacturers that can be used independently of sedisto (no lock-in). For another, we rely on mature, proven hardware. Any desired accessories or colour variants are available, and defective units are replaced quickly and professionally by the manufacturer. Our hardware partners have hundreds of people working on their products around the clock.
Do you have smart locks? + −
We don't have smart locks — we make 'dumb locks' smart! The intelligence lies in the controllers and the software. The locks do what they do best: they open reliably.
Which locks are used? + −
We use locks from various manufacturers depending on the application. The range spans from dedicated garage locks and electromechanical locks from Europe (or from Asia on request) to NFC harvesting-based locks.
I have no mobile reception on my phone. + −
That's no problem at all. When there's no mobile signal, all doors and units can still be opened. We use Bluetooth technology for this. As a customer, you won't even notice — the door simply always opens.
What happens if my site loses internet access? + −
Our solution is prepared for this. All access permissions are stored locally on site. Opening requests reach our gateway via Bluetooth, so we can open doors even without an internet connection at the site. New bookings can also be synced with the gateway despite an internet outage — it has a built-in mobile SIM for exactly this purpose.
What happens if I lose my phone? Can someone use it to open doors? + −
No — your phone is protected by its own security methods such as PIN, Face ID or fingerprint. On top of that, we can also request these security features before every opening, if desired. This can easily be toggled per door or unit: always, only when you're off-site, or never. It's all a matter of settings.
Is there an emergency opening option in case of a system failure? + −
First of all, a system failure shouldn't happen in the first place. But if it does, there are various emergency opening options depending on the lock type. Of course, you can never lock yourself inside a unit — a mechanical release from the inside is always possible.
Can I get a custom PIN? + −
That's at the discretion of your storage operator. Both individual PINs and global system PINs can be assigned.
Can I see who has opened a unit? + −
In our portal, you can see at any time when, who, and which door or unit was opened. You can also see whether a unit is open or closed, or whether a cable has been cut — for example if a wall reader has been tampered with.
